The PSOE of Lanzarote denounces that Oswaldo Betancort intended to close Ángel Vázquez's crisis with "a tailor-made suit so that he would continue collecting while selling to the citizens that he had dismissed him". The socialists point out that the proposal presented today to the Board of Directors of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers contemplated only the consideration of his medical leave and the assumption of the area's delegation by María Jesús Tovar.

The socialist spokesperson in the Cabildo, Ariagona González, considers that the content of that proposal "exposes the president's deception". "Oswaldo Betancort has lied to the citizens with the dismissal of Ángel Vázquez. He had publicly presented as a decision made what he intended to resolve today through a substitution for medical leave. Everything was prepared for Vázquez to continue collecting and for the president to appear to have demanded responsibility," she states.

Faced with this situation, the Socialist Group forced the express inclusion of the dismissal in the agenda of the CACT Board of Directors. For the PSOE, this incorporation "dismantles the narrative with which Betancort had tried to consider the scandal resolved".

"If Ángel Vázquez had been dismissed, why was his dismissal not on the agenda? Why was the proposal limited to taking his leave into consideration and María Jesús Tovar assuming the area? We had to demand that the dismissal that Betancort had already sold as a fact be expressly incorporated," says González.

The socialists recall that they demanded responsibility after it became known that Vázquez signed the final resolution of the procedure in which his son obtained a permanent position in the Tourist Centers. The spokesperson denounces that, since then, "the president has tried to hide behind the Popular Party and avoid the explanations that correspond to him as the maximum responsible for the Cabildo".

"Betancort's priority has been to find a comfortable way out for his government partner. He announced a dismissal and brought a medical leave to the Board of Directors. That difference reveals how far he was willing to go to protect Vázquez and deceive the people of Lanzarote about the political consequences of what happened," she maintains.

The PSOE warns, furthermore, that the inclusion of the dismissal in the CACT does not exhaust the pending responsibilities. The Socialist Group maintains its demand that Betancort remove Vázquez from the Governing Council and demand the surrender of his seat, as well as the request for an extraordinary plenary session for the president to account for what happened.

"A person who prepares for years to access a public position has the right to trust in the cleanliness of the procedures. That a political leader signs the resolution in which his son obtains a permanent position and continues under the protection of the president deteriorates that trust. Betancort must explain why he considers that Ángel Vázquez can continue to be part of his government after what happened," concludes González.
