The Councilor of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Benjamín Perdomo, has denounced this Monday the situation of collapse that is experienced at the gates of the Timanfaya National Park, where the kilometer-long queues of vehicles have once again marked the beginning of Holy Week. “One more year, the entrance to the park becomes a mousetrap in the face of the passivity of the government group of the Canary Coalition and the Popular Party”, he lamented.

Perdomo recalled that during the previous term the necessary solutions were promoted to avoid this type of situation: “We bought the buses, designed and planned the shuttle system and left two key projects drafted: the dissuasive parking lots in Mancha Blanca and Yaiza. The objective was clear: to regulate access to the park, protect the environment and improve the experience of visitors and residents”.

According to the socialist councilor, since the arrival of Oswaldo Betancort to the government of the Cabildo, “all that work has been left in a drawer”. “Not a single one of the projects that we left prepared has been executed. There have been months of absolute paralysis while the problems worsen and mass tourism continues to advance without control”, he warned.

Benjamín Perdomo has demanded that the president of the Cabildo act urgently and recover the solutions designed by the previous government team. “The only possible alternative to prevent Timanfaya from continuing to collapse is a real regulation of access, as we had planned. It cannot be that an environmental jewel of this magnitude is on the verge of collapse due to lack of management”.

From the PSOE of Lanzarote they insist that the park needs “an orderly and sustainable mobility model” that allows to reconcile its conservation with tourist activity. “The island cannot continue waiting”, the councilor closes.
