The PSOE of Arrecife denounces the new closure of Reducto beach due to fecal spills, an episode that once again highlights the absolute failure of water and sanitation management in the capital of Lanzarote. “At Easter, after the beach had been closed for half a year, they promised us that this was fixed,” comments Cristina Duque.
For the socialist party, it is especially serious that this closure occurs in the middle of summer, during the peak tourist season, just a few months after the beach remained closed for more than half a year for exactly the same problem. Likewise, the organization points out the incapacity of Oswaldo Betancort as president of the Water Consortium and Yonathan de León as mayor, seriously damaging the image of Arrecife as a tourist destination and punishing a fundamental economic sector for the city.
They point out that El Reducto is not only a tourist attraction, but a beach for neighbors who once again see it closed due to new fecal episodes. Furthermore, it is deemed unacceptable that Arrecife continues to make headlines for these fecal spills.
Likewise, the organization mentions Oswaldo Betancort and Yonathan de León being a step away from El Reducto enjoying the Lava Live Fest while the beach closure was taking place.
The PSOE demands that the Arrecife City Council and the Water Consortium immediately offer a definitive solution to this problem. Cristina Duque states that “governing means taking responsibility, showing up, and ensuring that Arrecife’s most important beach is not closed again and again for the same fecal spills.”
