The PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) of Lanzarote has reported that the CEO of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers, Ángel Vázquez, spent 19,000 euros with a credit card from the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers during the 2024 fiscal year. The socialist councilor Benjamín Perdomo has described the events as "an unprecedented scandal," warning that an institutional card had never before been used to accumulate such a high expense in terms of representation expenses and so far removed from the real priorities of a public company like the CACT.
Perdomo has stated that the Socialist Group will demand all the necessity reports linked to each of the expenses made with said card and warns that "the CACT cannot become an ATM at the service of the councilor's institutional agenda, with the complicit silence of Oswaldo Betancort."
Increase of 25,000 euros in his salary
Perdomo points out that this is in addition to Vázquez's scandalous salary increase in 2024, going from 69,785.37 euros in 2023 to 94,742.48 euros in 2024. "An increase of almost 25,000 euros that is now added to the use of a personal VISA for representation expenses," he adds.
"The CACTs are a public company that owes exemplary behavior and transparency to the citizens. Lines are being crossed that no administration should cross, acting with everyone's resources as if it were a personal expense account," concludes the councilor, who also warns that the Socialist Group is still waiting to know the expense corresponding to the year 2025, which could reveal an even greater increase in "waste" in the management of the councilor.
