The PSOE demands that Oswaldo Betancort "not give in to Clavijo" in the marine cage conflict

Councilor Benjamín Perdomo states that "for the moment, it is not necessary for him to go to Brussels, it is enough for him to go to Tenerife and demand that whoever caused the problem fix it"

The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has demanded that Oswaldo Betancort remain in the line initiated by Dolores Corujo in the past term and "not give in to Clavijo" in the conflict of the marine cages.

Benjamín Perdomo, socialist councilor in the Island Council, recalled that it was "the previous government of Clavijo that approved the regional plan for the management of aquaculture", PROAC, which has enabled "the request for the installation of cages" off the coasts of the main tourist area of the island and where the most local population is concentrated.

"It was Loli Corujo's government that began an intense judicial activity to prevent this authentic nonsense from going ahead," said Perdomo, who has demanded that Betancort "not take a single step back in the defense of Lanzarote's interests and maintain the actions initiated by Corujo."

The councilor recalled that Betancort in his inauguration speech "committed to going to the community capital to ensure that Lanzarote's claims are addressed." "For the moment, it is not necessary for him to go to Brussels, it is enough for him to go to Tenerife and demand that whoever caused the problem fix it", he explained.

A "scandal" with the seal of the Canarian Coalition

Bejamin Perdomo states that, as will be recalled, "the declaration of the area between Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen as an Aquaculture Interest Zone (ZIA) was included in the PROAC, which was approved by the Government Council of the Canary Islands, chaired by Fernando Clavijo, on July 9, 2018."

The plan was approved at the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Water, headed by Narvay Quintero as minister, with the Lanzarote native Orlando Umpiérrez as the general director of fisheries.

Despite the initial document having entered the Cabildo of Lanzarote, then presided over by Pedro San Ginés, the first island institution "did not make any allegations in defense of the Lanzarote coasts," the party concludes.
