The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Island Council and deputy secretary of the Executive Committee of the PSOE of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, has responded to the press release issued by Oswaldo Betancort in which the president denies the information published about his actions in the criminal proceedings against Pedro San Ginés.

"It is not enough to say that what has been published is not true, when it comes to such serious matters, Oswaldo Betancort has to justify his statements with official documents," González pointed out, recalling that the PSOE has registered a request for information that concerns, precisely, the issues that Betancort denies.

The socialist councilor explained that the PSOE has requested a copy of the legal reports that support the decisions attributed to Betancort, as well as copies of all communications sent to the lawyer, the solicitor, the Court No. 2 of Instruction and the Provincial Court.

"Oswaldo Betancort himself has acknowledged that he gave instructions to the lawyer to halt all actions, that the withdrawal documents were submitted and that it is the Legal Department of the Cabildo that has been sending documents in the proceedings, but he has not provided documentation on the alleged reports from the legal services that led him to adopt those decisions that do not benefit either the Consortium or INALSA, but clearly favor Pedro San Ginés," the spokesperson explained.

"A clear falsehood"

González explained that the PSOE is awaiting the requested documentation but is already in a position to affirm that Oswaldo Betancort's excuse note deviates from reality.

As the socialist spokesperson explained, the accusation made by Betancort blaming the previous president for having skipped the procedure established in the statutes of the Consortium and INALSA is radically false.

The president presented the challenge for reasons of urgency, given the short period of time established by law for its formalization and, subsequently, the competent bodies ratified her decision.

"Oswaldo Betancort knows perfectly well that the highest officials of public institutions are authorized to act personally for reasons of urgency when it comes to the defense of the institutions themselves, and must then submit that decision to the competent government bodies, which is what the previous president did," González explained.

"This decision of the president was also supported by a proposal from the legal direction of the procedure, which is responsible for defining the line of action of the institution," she concluded.
