The PSOE has denounced that the Government Group of Teguise has rejected the updating of the General Plan of the municipality. The socialists have pointed out "both the form and the substance" with which Coalición Canaria, the Popular Party and Vox have "dismissed" the issue.

For the socialist spokesperson, Marcos Bergaz, it has been "disappointing to see this short-sighted attitude when Teguise needs long-sighted leaders".

In this line, Bergaz has been "emphatic" in declaring that the government "makes clear the lack of ambition for the future by settling for minor and specific modifications, leaving in the "drawer of pending issues" the announcement of the past term, "in which the current mayor, then councilor of Urbanism, promised together with the previous mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, the beginning of the updating of the PGOU of Teguise".

The socialists wonder "what has led to leaving the promise in oblivion" and to "turn a deaf ear to the very forecast of the General Plan in force that establishes an update of the document after eight years since its approval and to this day a decade has passed, when it is also necessary to adapt it to supervening norms".

"Of course, in our roadmap, underlines Bergaz, was and is its update", to "respond to social demands such as overcoming the difficulties that many residents have to build homes in the different towns and payments of the municipality, in addition to being able to obtain more public land".

Thinking about the future

The PSOE observes with "concern that the planning tasks are accumulating for Teguise and La Graciosa". "In addition to rejecting a comprehensive update of the base document of the municipality's urban planning, the General Plan, the government still has not developed the Special Plan of the Historic Site of La Villa and there is no news of the new Modernization Plan of Costa Teguise when Puerto del Carmen is advancing towards its third tourist plan with million-dollar investments", says Bergaz.

In the opinion of the socialist spokesperson "it is a bad indicator to hear the current government of CC, PP and Vox that renounces the challenges that this municipality and its citizens must face in the future in the medium and long term". Definitely, sentences Bergaz, "Teguise and La Graciosa deserve a government that stops thinking small and does it with a broad view".
