The PSOE criticizes the mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, for "refusing to declare as urgent a motion presented by the PSOE to debate in the Plenary about the rehabilitation of the Titerroy homes."
In the motion, the Socialist Group requested that the Plenary "adopt the agreement to formalize, as a matter of urgency, the application for a subsidy from the Government of the Canary Islands to initiate the process that culminates in the rehabilitation of the homes in the Titerroy neighborhood, which were evicted 13 years ago due to structural problems."
"The City Council has all the documentation"
The socialist spokesperson, Cristina Duque, recalls that months ago "the Canary Islands Housing Institute sent the City Council all the necessary documentation to obtain subsidies for the rehabilitation works of the homes, and also months ago the City Council received the mandatory execution project."
"The only step missing is for Astrid Pérez to do her homework and authorize it with her signature, but so far the mayor has not lifted a finger to start the process that puts an end to the long agony of these families," says the municipal spokesperson for the PSOE. The affected homes are located on José Pereyra Galviaty, Timbayba, and Tinache streets in Titerroy.
Duque stated in the motion that the City Council "must act with diligence and speed," as they cannot allow "a tragedy like the one that occurred 13 years ago to happen again, and in memory of Juan Luis García, who lost his life after the roof of his house collapsed, so these neighbors deserve a solution now."
