The PSOE of Lanzarote has condemned this Monday the "propaganda action" organized by the far-right platform Hazte Oír in Playa Bastián, in the vicinity of the La Mareta Residence, where the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, is enjoying a few days of rest.

For the socialists, this action, based on hatred and provocation, “does not represent Lanzarote or the Canary Islands”, and is part of the “coordinated noise of the extreme right and its media satellites to poison political life.”

The general secretary of the PSOE and deputy in Congress, María Dolores Corujo, has pointed out that “Lanzarote is a welcoming, diverse and respectful land, which has demonstrated at the polls that it suffers and rejects hate speech. In the last general elections, the Socialist Party was the most voted force both in Lanzarote and in the Canary Islands, and it was precisely because we represent a way of doing politics based on rights, coexistence and the defense of the general interest.”

Corujo has linked this action by Hazte Oír with the “climate of tension that some have been trying to force for some time also in Lanzarote”, and has recalled the “ridiculous and unfortunate statements” by the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, or by the president of the PP of Lanzarote, “who have not hesitated to even use the vacations of the President of the Government to sow noise, disinformation and division.”

“That Pedro Sánchez spends a few days of rest in La Mareta should not bother anyone who respects democracy, especially considering that we are talking about an official residence of the State,” added the socialist leader.

The PSOE of Lanzarote defends the right of all people, including public authorities, to "rest in freedom and without being the object of campaigns orchestrated by radical organizations that have demonstrated, time and time again, their contempt for democratic values."

“What should concern us as a society”, concludes Corujo, “is the advance of intolerance disguised as freedom of expression, and the normalization of discourses that only seek to divide and confront.”
