The PSOE of Lanzarote has denounced this Tuesday that the island is once again left out of the extraordinary fuel subsidy approved by the Government of the Canary Islands for the second quarter of the year. The measure, in force from April 1 to June 30, includes aid of 5 cents per liter in Fuerteventura, 20 cents in La Gomera and La Palma, and 30 cents in El Hierro. "Once again, Lanzarote is excluded without justification," they point out.
The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ariagona González, has described the decision as "shameful" and has stated that "this shows how little Fernando Clavijo's Government cares about Lanzarote." "For Clavijo, Lanzarote is too far from Tenerife. Not only are we the second to last island in investment by the Government of the Canary Islands, but we are left out of key measures such as this, which would directly alleviate the pockets of citizens and the economic sectors of the island," she denounced.
González has also directed her criticisms at the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, for "his inability to defend the interests of the island": "Once again, Oswaldo Betancort remains silent. Where is the president of the Cabildo while they leave us out? What is the point of having a president who does not raise his voice in the face of this type of grievance?" she questioned.
The socialist spokesperson recalled that "Lanzarote suffers the same additional costs derived from insularity as other islands, and that fuel is a key factor in the local economy." "This discrimination is unjustifiable. The citizens of Lanzarote deserve the same treatment as the rest of the Archipelago," she insisted.
From the PSOE of Lanzarote, they demand an immediate rectification from the Government of the Canary Islands. "Clavijo punishes Lanzarote, and Oswaldo allows it. We are not going to accept being treated as a second-class island," concludes González.
