The Socialist Group has registered a question in Parliament through deputy Marcos Hernández Guillén, so that the autonomous government explains why Lanzarote has been excluded from the extraordinary and temporary fuel bonus in the non-capital islands.
The question, addressed to the Ministry of Finance, seeks to clarify how the Executive justifies that, since February 1, 2025, the new regulations for calculating the amounts of the bonus in the five non-capital islands have come into force, leaving Lanzarote out.
The PSOE of Lanzarote denounces that this exclusion represents a comparative offense for the citizens and economic sectors of the island, who will be harmed compared to other islands that will receive this support. In addition, the socialists emphasize that this decision breaks with the criterion of cohesion and equity between the territories and is a serious error on the part of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The parliamentarian of the Socialist Group for Lanzarote, Marcos Hernández, has harshly criticized this decision, assuring that “Lanzarote is the island with the highest fuel price in the archipelago, and the Government of the Canary Islands knows it. However, instead of correcting this situation, they have decided to exclude Lanzarote from the bonus, punishing families, freelancers and strategic sectors of the island.”
Marcos Hernández has insisted that this aid is not a privilege, but “a corrective measure in the face of the inequalities suffered by the non-capital islands in accessing essential goods” and has demanded that the Government of the Canary Islands rectify and include Lanzarote in the fuel bonus.
“We do not understand what criteria the Executive has followed to make this decision, but what we do know is that it is a new blow to the citizens of Lanzarote. We are not going to allow ourselves to continue being treated as second-class citizens,” concluded the socialist parliamentarian.
