The PSOE asks for "public transport lines" that directly connect the neighborhoods of Argana Alta, Argana Baja and Maneje with Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. “A large part of those who carry out their work in the accommodation facilities of our main tourist areas reside in the most inhabited and poorly connected neighborhoods of Arrecife and this situation must be taken into account to provide an efficient service designed by and for the citizens of Lanzarote”.
This is how the Lanzarote party has positioned itself regarding the "need to launch new lines" that leave directly from the neighborhoods of Argana Alta, Argana Baja and Maneje with Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise and respond to "this need demanded by the population of the island". In this regard, the Socialist Group of the Cabildo of Lanzarote will defend a motion in the plenary session this Thursday.
The councilor of the Socialist Group, Belén Morales, has pointed out that many workers “must dedicate a large amount of time to travel within the capital, until they reach the departure point of the buses that will take them to their jobs and that later, on the way back, they lose hours of their scarce free time to return to their homes”.
"Services must be designed for the people"
“Sometimes, between the time lost with these additional trips and the practical impossibility of finding a place on the buses, many of these people are forced to use private vehicles, with the economic impact that this has on their families and on the environment and sustainable mobility”, added the councilor.
“The PSOE has stated its position on repeated occasions: public services must be at the service of the people and not at the service of the interests of a company”, Morales stressed, who has denounced that Oswaldo Betancort and his government group "voted against in the past plenary session the socialist motion that requested that the Cabildo directly manage the Regular Interurban Passenger Transport Service of Lanzarote" . “They prefer to hide their heads under the wing, instead of assuming a socialist proposal that would bring great benefits and better coordination with the needs of all the municipalities”, she stated.
“Without a doubt, one of the great challenges that the island has ahead is the design of sustainable mobility strategies that meet a double objective: the efficiency of resources and making life easier for people”, concluded the socialist councilor.
