The general secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote and deputy in Congress, María Dolores Corujo, has celebrated the decision of the Madrid regional government to declare the mural of the Lanzarote artist César Manrique as an Asset of Patrimonial Interest (BIP) located in the Central district of Madrid, a proposal promoted by the PSOE.

It is a unique work on tiles in which Manrique represented a botijo, a cement mixer and several bricklayers, reflecting with his usual aesthetic and symbolic force the value of work and the everyday.

Corujo has stressed that this declaration of protection "is the result of the constant and rigorous work of the PSOE of Lanzarote, both from the Cabildo and in Madrid", recalling that her group promoted a Non-Law Proposal (PNL) to demand its protection and that from the Cabildo a motion was approved to acquire the property and turn it into a cultural space.

"Faced with those who unprotected and destroy our natural and cultural heritage, such as the legacy of César Manrique, we have acted. We have done so with responsibility, with concrete proposals and without giving up. The PSOE of Lanzarote has achieved it", Corujo declared.

The socialist leader has argued that this victory is also "a wake-up call about what is happening in Lanzarote, where Manrique's legacy is being ignored and sidelined by those who govern looking the other way while tourist pressure multiplies, licenses are issued without control and the island's identity is put at risk every day."

Finally, Corujo pointed out that this declaration is "a further step in the PSOE's commitment to the protection of artistic and cultural heritage, and proof that when you act with conviction, you can stop the abuses and regain respect for those who built the identity of our people."
