The PSOE accuses Oswaldo Betancort of "wasting 80,000 euros" at a gastronomic fair in Texas

"This expense is not only unnecessary, but it also reflects a worrying disconnect with the true needs of the citizens," declared the councilor of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo, Benjamín Perdomo.

The Socialist Party of Lanzarote has harshly criticized the latest decision of the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort (CC), who will spend more than 80,000 euros at a gastronomic fair in Texas. The PSOE considers that this expense "represents a waste of public money at a critical moment for the island, marked by constant water cuts that affect both the population and sectors such as agriculture."

"It is irresponsible that, while Lanzarote families suffer recurrent water cuts and the housing emergency worsens, Betancort dedicates himself to wasting public resources on gastronomic events abroad, which he will also attend during a week-long trip. It is not only an unnecessary expense, but it reflects a worrying disconnect with the true needs of the citizens," declared the councilor of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Benjamín Perdomo.

"With the occurrences he accumulates, Oswaldo Betancort will be remembered for outbursts such as trying to set a salary higher than that of the President of the Government, spending public resources to ask citizens about what salary to set, trips to New York and Miami to promote the island while we reach unsustainable records of visits, and now gastronomic fairs in the United States. It's scandalous."

Perdomo emphasizes that public money is not to be invested in "whims of the President." "The people of Lanzarote are seeing how the management of basic resources, such as water, is becoming increasingly precarious, while more than 80,000 euros are allocated to promote we don't know exactly what in Texas, something that is clearly not among the priorities of the island," added Perdomo.

What island does Oswaldo Betancort live on?

The PSOE points out that the lack of water is "just one of the many crises that Lanzarote is going through under Betancort's management, also highlighting the problems of access to housing and the saturation of basic resources." "Lanzarote is experiencing an unprecedented water crisis with the seal of Oswaldo Betancort and Domingo Cejas.

"It gives the feeling that Oswaldo Betancort does not live on the same island as the rest of the people of Lanzarote. While essential services are being cut and water cuts have become the norm, the Cabildo of Lanzarote seems more concerned with projecting an image to the outside than in solving the problems that affect us all here. It is time to prioritize our people, not to continue wasting money on actions that make no sense," concludes Perdomo.
