The PSOE of Lanzarote has revealed that the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, "has lost the funds destined for the Tahíche nursing home, after allowing the socio-sanitary infrastructure agreement signed with the Government of the Canary Islands to expire". "The inaction of the Cabildo has forced the return of a key investment to improve care for the elderly on the island," he pointed out.
Ariagona González, spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Cabildo, has been blunt: “Oswaldo Betancort has failed. And it is not just about passivity: it is negligence that demonstrates an inability that has made us lose a historic opportunity to provide the island with an essential socio-sanitary infrastructure."
The PSOE also warns that "with the announcement of this project, the president of the Cabildo chose to concentrate powers that do not correspond to him, such as socio-sanitary care, which is the responsibility of the Government of the Canary Islands, while reducing economic support to the municipalities, which are the ones who are at the foot of the canyon in direct care for people in situations of dependency."
“Oswaldo Betancort's action is not only irresponsible, but also deeply damaging to the island: he has lost essential funds, appropriates powers that do not correspond to him and, to top it off, cuts support to the town councils, which are the ones who truly support the social services closest to the citizens,” González denounced.
Likewise, the PSOE has denounced that "Betancort tried to manipulate public opinion by falsely blaming the previous island government and the regional Executive presided over by Ángel Víctor Torres for the stoppage of the project. A completely false accusation: the project was reactivated, processed and financed thanks to the agreement promoted during the stage of María Dolores Corujo at the head of the Cabildo. The only reason why Lanzarote has lost these funds is the absolute lack of management of the current president."
“He lied to the citizens by boasting about recovering funds that had never been lost. The reality is that his lack of capacity in management is what has caused them to be definitively lost now. No matter how much he has tried to blame the PSOE and resorted to empty speeches, the reality is clear: it was the Socialist Party that reactivated the project and made its inclusion in the socio-sanitary agreement possible. And it has been Oswaldo Betancort who allowed it to expire without executing absolutely anything. That is the only truth,” concluded the socialist spokesperson.
