The Provincial Court of Las Palmas has rejected the request of two of the defendants in the first separate piece of the "Unión" case, Dimas Martín and Luisa Blanco, to postpone the trial scheduled for October, according to the newspaper La Provincia.
The Court does not accept the arguments of the defendants and decides that the trial be held, since it does not consider proven the relationship between the procedure that is followed in the Investigating Court Number 3 of Arrecife for a possible theft of cars from the "Unión" summary, which is being investigated secretly, and the trial that is going to be held.
The trial is scheduled for October 16 and affects the former Minister of the Government of the Canary Islands, Francisco José Rodríguez Batllori, and Dimas Martín, who are accused of allegedly stealing public funds from the Arrecife City Council and Inalsa. The Court already established in July the date to hold this hearing, within a calendar that extends until November 21 over nine sessions.
This piece investigates the payment of invoices for work allegedly not performed. Rodríguez Batllori faces a petition of eight years in prison, while the Prosecutor's Office asks for six years in prison for Dimas Martín.
Along with Rodríguez Batllori and Dimas Martín, José Miguel Rodríguez, who confessed to the facts and for whom the Prosecutor's Office is asking for one year in prison, the former Councilor for Personnel and Internal Affairs, María Luisa Blanco, the former CEO of Inalsa, Plácida Guerra, and the former manager of Inalsa, Rafael Elorrieta Larrea, continue to be accused in this case. For these last three defendants, the Public Ministry requests five years in prison.
