The President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, wants to publicly thank the air traffic controllers' unions who this Thursday decided to postpone until after Christmas the strike they have been holding at the César Manrique airport since February.

"Every worker has the constitutional right to strike, and that is indisputable, so I want to thank the air traffic controllers for postponing their protest measures during the Christmas season, a scenario that would be a real headache for tourists and residents of the island," said the President of the Cabildo, who hopes that a solution to the conflict will be found very soon.

Precisely, Betancort announced yesterday his intention to meet with Aena after learning firsthand the status of the conversations by Saerco and the Air Controllers Union (USCA) who, at present, maintain an open negotiation on the salary increases of this group, which has caused delays in the operations of departure and entry of flights at the César Manrique airport, placing it as the fifth airport with the most delays in Europe.

"The fact that the controllers do not support the strike at the Lanzarote airport between December 1 and January 7, is to be valued and therefore I express my sincere gratitude on behalf of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, since our airport is being one of the most affected by the delays caused by the strike and the coming weeks are crucial for the tourism sector but also for all families traveling on these important dates," added Betancort.
