The PP councilors in Teguise have not finally voted in favor of the institutional declaration against the explorations, but only because they do not share one of the points and ask for the modification of another. This was explained by councilor María José Costa during the Plenary Session, in which she made it clear that they were determined to give their favorable vote to the motion, but if point three was eliminated, in which the central government is accused of "disloyalty" and "lack of respect" to the Canarians and their institutions.
In addition, she also requested a modification of point two of the motion, which states that the Plenary denounces the "opacity and lack of transparency of the State Government" in the processing of the file. However, this claim has not been accepted and the motion has been voted without any change.
Given this circumstance, and as the councilor of Tinajo did on Wednesday, the majority of the PP councilors in La Villa have not followed the party line and have abstained in this vote. "Without mincing words and without fear of anything, I am in favor of stopping the explorations until there is an agreement," said María José Costa in her speech.
During the session, the PP councilors voted divided and the only one who remained in the official discourse of the party was Roger Deign, who voted against the institutional declaration against the explorations and defended the surveys. María José Costa and Toñi Suárez abstained, while the fourth councilor, Jonay Díaz, was not present at the session. Díaz, who is also president of the Local Committee of the PP in Teguise, made his position clear at the meeting held by this body last Monday, when he spoke in favor of suspending the explorations.
Costa criticized during the session that CC and PSOE did not send the motion to the PP and assured that CC "does not have the moral authority" to accuse the State Government of "disloyalty and lack of respect". In addition, she insisted that a serene debate on oil explorations has not been possible. "I am obliged to abstain," she said during the Plenary Session, in which, however, she was in favor of a referendum to consult the Canarians on their opinion on this important issue.
The rest of the parties have voted in favor of this initiative. Both the PIL, as well as the PSOE and CC have supported this institutional motion. The CC councilor, Echedey Eugenio, congratulated the PP councilors in Teguise who "have distanced themselves" from the official line of their party and invited the population to demonstrate on Saturday against oil.
