The Popular Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa have voted against the draft budget prepared by the Corujo government "after PSOE and Podemos have asserted in the Plenary the vote of Councilor Sosa and run over each and every one of the amendments presented by the PP and that were favorably dictated by the Finance Committee, where the opposition does have a majority", they point out from the PP.
The Populars regret that in the end the socialists have "acted against the favorable opinion of the Commission without even considering the proposed budget improvements that have been presented". In this regard, the PP councilor Jacobo Medina has been emphatic in pointing out that "there is still another opportunity because from May 28, when the Popular Party holds the presidency, they will carry out all the budgetary modifications that are pertinent, opportune and necessary to place Lanzarote and La Graciosa in the place of progress and development that corresponds to them.”
For Medina, “the budget cuts that Corujo has applied with respect to the last accounts approved in 2021, with the PP still in government, are totally incoherent and improper of a government that calls itself progressive left”, in clear allusion to the 96.3% cut that has been made in housing matters.
The councilor highlighted, “these budgets are the confirmation of the failure and inability of the socialist Dolores Corujo in what has been one of her star projects and in which she has been permanently insisting during the last three and a half years”. Medina considers that after dismantling the social housing program, reducing the allocation to the residents of La Graciosa by 50% or cutting 2 million in Public Works or lowering items such as commerce, industry or sports, it is "completely ridiculous to hear that these budgets are a great progressive legacy when what they truly are is profoundly regressive."
