The Popular Party of Tías has asked the City Council, led by the socialist José Juan Cruz, that the money that "has stopped investing in subsidies" to the clubs to pay for the transportation of teams that compete outside the island and individual athletes, "should continue to be allocated to the sports activity that takes place in the municipality".
The opposition party has pointed out that "the decision to eliminate the 100,000 euros from this line of subsidies ended last year by increasing the corporation's surplus while clubs and athletes struggle to have the economic resources they need in a timely manner to maintain their operation".
The populars have criticized that eliminating this aid from the Sports budget "has no justification" and that "that amount can and should continue to be directed to municipal sports activity". "It makes no sense that clubs and families have to resort to different initiatives to raise funds to sustain their activity when that money can be invested in the sports schools that have been doing such a good job for years in Tías," said the councilor and president of the local PP, Francisco Aparicio.
"It is very good that the members of the government group go running to take the photo when individual athletes and the different teams manage to reach new sports goals, but it would be better to do so knowing that the city council is giving them all the economic support they need to face each season, especially when there are resources for it," concluded Aparicio.
