The Popular Party has announced that it will continue with its commitment to turn the Islote de Fermina into a strategic space of international reference in nautical sports in Arrecife, while improving and expanding the services that the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers manage in an integral way, by virtue of the agreement signed in January 2023 between the Arrecife City Council, the EPEL and the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
This maintains the objective set by the Consistory in the past term of office by Astrid Pérez as mayor and which is none other than "dynamizing the space as much as possible" designed by the artist César Manrique and which today "is being underutilized", they have highlighted from the party. In this sense, the Popular Party is committed to "take advantage of the wide potential offered by the islet for nautical and recreational activities for residents and visitors".
It should be noted that the Arrecife City Council has the "availability of the facilities" in accordance with the public domain concession granted by Puertos de Las Palmas on some 800 square meters of built surface, "destined for sports, nautical and recreational facilities for public use".
The Populars analyzed this initiative on Wednesday during a meeting with the island president of the PP, Astrid Pérez, in which the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, participated; the vice president of the Cabildo and councilor of Public Works, Jacobo Medina; the councilor of the Tourist Centers, Ángel Vázquez; the head of the Sports Area of the corporation, Juan Monzón; the head of Finance, María Tovar, and the councilor of Security and Emergencies, Francisco Aparicio.
The Populars defend the "great economic boost" that the opening of this space to sports and nautical activities will mean for the city, and the island as a whole. From the party they also highlight the "many possibilities and opportunities" offered by La Fermina and the waters of the capital's coastline for nautical tourism, one of the tourist segments that "has increased the most post-pandemic" in our country, resulting in addition to be "one of the highest purchasing power and spending capacity", they added.
In Lanzarote, around 362,000 visitors arrived on the island in 2023 with the aim of carrying out nautical activities.
