The Popular Party has described the image that the Cabildo is offering with the only authorized campsite on the island as "shameful and third-world". "It is not the first time that the councilors of the Popular Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote have questioned the poor management of the island government of PSOE and Podemos with respect to the Papagayo campsite. In fact, it has been one of the issues that the popular representatives have taken to the plenary on several occasions due to the passivity and apathy that the two government parties have demonstrated," they recall in a statement.
Now, the popular representatives echo the complaints they say they are receiving from users and associations of campers and caravanners "in relation to the interruption of services without prior notice and, worst of all, when the full monthly payment had already been paid, or even new stays had been paid for." A situation that Councilor Jacobo Medina considers totally "intolerable", because "the issue of the campsite has become a series of absurdities."
"It is not just that the facility is underutilized, but it must be remembered that the Easter week opening was done with the bathrooms out of service because the PSOE and Podemos considered it so," Medina emphasizes.
"Subsequently, and due to existing pressure, including that of the Popular Party, the president announces that, for the first time in history, the camping area was going to be open all year round," recalls the councilor, who adds that "what the PSOE and Podemos government hid are the conditions in which they intend to keep the camping area open, as there is a lack of control and surveillance, there is only one water point and the only thing offered is a deposit to pour the sewage.”
From the Popular Party they insist again that "being the only authorized area, the Cabildo must bet clearly and decisively so that this campsite is open all year round in a real and feasible way, with all the services that are required, and that all lovers of the activity can develop it at any time of the year."
"What cannot be is that openings are announced without services and without minimum conditions, and on top of that, they boast that they are saving costs and money from taxpayers," Medina denounces.
