The Popular Party has expressed its disagreement with Manuel Fajardo Feo's decision to raise the national Canary flag, "with this new outrage to the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands by those who should precisely guard and enforce the Constitution and the Statute itself, that is, the maximum guarantor, the mayor of Arrecife, of CC," they point out from the political formation.

From the Popular Party, they criticize that the nationalist group of CC has made the unilateral decision to change the symbols at will without even informing its government partner, the PSOE, which has already shown its rejection of this type of attitude. For this reason, the PP has submitted a request for reports to the general secretary of the City Council to report on this undemocratic action by the mayor.

"It is unheard of that those who pride themselves on pointing out that they are scrupulous in procedures and in compliance with the law now carry out acts that go against one of our fundamental laws such as the Statute of Autonomy. If the mayor wants to put a flag to his liking, let him put it in his house or at the headquarters of his party and certainly not at the headquarters of all citizens who happen not to opt for a nationalist and independentist majority," declares Cristóbal Junkal Fernández, councilor of the Popular Party of Arrecife.

For the popular, "it is more than demonstrated that the mayor and CC are totally diverted from the true resolution of citizens' problems because acts like this show that they are certainly not very concerned about the situation of the capital, they argue from the popular ranks."

"The City Council of Arrecife is not the private estate of Manolo Fajardo Feo or CC, it belongs to all the citizens of Arrecife and therefore taking this type of measures with absolute contempt for the law, and the institution it represents is nothing more than the usual procedure of those who are more entertained in their ideological battles than in the municipal management itself," says Cristóbal Junkal.
