The Municipal Group of the Popular Party of Tías has presented a motion to the City Council Plenary to launch a program of cognitive stimulation and neurorehabilitation workshops, aimed especially at people with cognitive impairment in the initial phase, whether it is Alzheimer's or another type of dementia.

This initiative, linked to the institutional commitment to the well-being of the elderly, seeks to cover a growing need in the municipality, where numerous families live with people who require specialized support. Although the council already carries out active aging activities, these are not specifically aimed at people with cognitive impairment, who need adapted and professional care.

“We believe that it is not enough for us to illuminate the facade of the town hall in green every September 21 to commemorate World Alzheimer's Day and make visible a disease that affects some 1,000 people on the island”, says the councilor and local president, Francisco Aparicio. “Already in 2023, the Tías City Council confirmed its support for the Municipalities in Solidarity with Alzheimer's project, which not only affects awareness and research but also support for affected people and families, so we understand that this initiative fits perfectly with the objectives”, he adds.

From the Popular Party they consider that the City Council is in a position to develop a program of workshops and activities aimed at patients in the initial phase in which stimulation adapted to their needs and the capabilities of each user is worked on, helping them to maintain normality in their daily lives for as long as possible. “This measure will also provide families with considerable economic relief since not all can afford the cost of this service privately”, defends Aparicio.

The program includes activities adjusted to the capacities and needs of each user, with the aim of prolonging their autonomy as much as possible and improving their quality of life, while providing respite for family caregivers

The Popular Party is confident that this proposal will achieve the consensus of the rest of the political groups and can be launched as soon as possible.
