The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, has made official this Monday the incorporation of a new non-elected councilor to the institution. The designated one has been Juan Monzón, who is currently president of the Local Committee of the Popular Party in Yaiza and councilor in that town hall.
Once he takes office, Monzón will assume the Department of Sports currently held by his party colleague, KiKo Aparicio. "It is a reason for pride and responsibility," Monzón told Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero. "The Sports area, is an area that I already know from the time of advisor in the Cabildo of Kiko Aparicio who already had Sports at that time, and it is nothing new to me, it is true that I will be surrounded by a great team of technicians, of people who are part of this department," he said.
Juan Monzón explained that "it is a very transversal area because it touches on issues such as equality, integration, the incorporation of children with disabilities, it is an area that touches many sticks, such as ensuring that all the infrastructures that depend on the Cabildo are in good condition and improve them if necessary".
This is the first non-elected councilor appointed by the president of the Cabildo in this new stage. According to the decree "the non-elected councilors only have voice and no vote in the sessions of the Island Government Council, and their attendance to these sessions is not counted for the purpose of determining the quorum legally required for the constitution of the body".
Juan Monzón will receive 60,000 euros gross, which is what was agreed in the plenary session of July 17, 2023, where the remuneration of the councilors with exclusive dedication was fixed.
