The mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, accompanied by the Councilor for Education, Saro González, and the president of the Mercedes Medina Díaz Association, Juan Cruz Sepúlveda, attended last Thursday, March 30, the ceremony of placing the plaque "Old CEIP Mercedes Medina" at the entrance of what is currently called IES Altavista.

A "very emotional" ceremony, in which the mayor "showed her rejection of the naming of this school as IES Altavista", since "she believes that in the city there are many people who deserve to be given social recognition as in the rest of Spanish cities".
Specifically in this municipality, "we have had great teachers, writers, chemists, doctors... who deserve a square, a roundabout or a school with their name”.
