The MRT denounces that Jesús Machín prohibits access to the Book of Decrees

The party believes that the situation is "even more serious because this prohibition prevents the councilors from fulfilling their functions of control and monitoring of municipal management, something that is protected by current legislation."

The Tinajo Renovation Movement (MRT) denounces that the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, "has prohibited access to the Book of Decrees since September 11," an essential tool for overseeing the work of the governing group and for exercising the right to information that corresponds to all members of the Corporation.

The MRT explains that, "after requesting in writing to know the reasons why they had been denied access to said document, the Secretariat of the City Council has communicated this Monday, through an official resolution, that the decision is due to an express order from the mayor, Jesús Machín, through a decree."

"On the one hand, we are not surprised," state the MRT, "because the governing group of Tinajo, and especially Jesús Machín, has not exactly stood out for its transparency or good practices in recent times. However, we are surprised that it has reached this extreme, especially after the mayor himself stated in several plenary sessions and media outlets that 'he has nothing to hide' and that he had given instructions for all the documentation to be at our disposal. Today it is demonstrated that he was not telling the truth," says Antonio Morales.

The MRT considers the situation "even more serious because this prohibition prevents councilors from fulfilling their functions of control and monitoring of municipal management, something that is protected by current legislation."

"We need to be properly informed to effectively exercise our responsibilities, and the mayor is violating that right. It is clear that obscurantism is returning to the Tinajo Town Hall, imposed by Jesús Machín to prevent the irregularities that are being committed from being known," the party warns.

"What a coincidence," the MRT adds, "that this prohibition arrives just after the scandal in which Mr. Machín himself supposedly made a mistake when trying to justify the invoices included in a recognition of debts for accommodations in a hotel in Tinajo. Many of those invoices had negative reports from the Municipal Intervention. With this act, the mayor demonstrates that he has much to hide and that he does not want citizens to know how he spends their tax money, nor who he hires or how he does it," the MRT denounces.

The MRT describes this event as an "institutional scandal" and announces that it will take the necessary measures to defend transparency and the right of public representatives to access municipal information.
