The Renovating Movement of Tinajo has accused the mayor, Jesús Machín, of "again despising the primary sector of the municipality and the people who have stalls in the agricultural market of Los Dolores, with a new unfulfilled announcement." "He said that the market would open this September 15, but our surprise was that it did not open," denounced the president and councilor of the party, Antonio Morales.
According to what those affected have told the MRT spokesperson, "it was between the afternoon and the night before when the City Council notified them that there would finally be no market this Tuesday, alleging that the Cabildo had informed them that it was not allowed with the current health restrictions due to the coronavirus crisis", which in reality have been in force for weeks.
"Instead of seeking advice and asking if the market can be opened or not, what we see is that he is constantly improvising, messing up every time he speaks and every time he announces something", questions Antonio Morales. In addition, he accuses the mayor of "hiding behind the Cabildo" and reminds him that "it is the City Council that has the power to open or not the market".
"During the State of Alarm, given the doubts about whether the markets could open, the Government Delegations in the Canary Islands and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands already clarified that not only could they open, but they should do so, because it was a way for the sector to have the opportunity to sell its product and generate economy", adds Antonio Morales.
Therefore, he demands that the mayor "take responsibility for his decisions and, above all, that he does not make announcements that he is not going to fulfill, since this causes significant damage" to the people who sell their products there. And it is that although that agricultural market does not usually open on the day of the Los Dolores festival, the MRT insists that this year the mayor had announced that it would work, given that the space -where the stage is usually installed- was going to be free because the traditional events were not going to be able to be held.
"The farmer has to go the day before to pick the product, prepare it, put it in boxes to take it there, and then finds that there is no market and that being a holiday, he cannot sell it anywhere", criticizes Morales.

In addition, this also adds to the damage for the people who have come this Tuesday to Los Dolores with the intention of buying and have found the market closed. "He does the opposite of what he says. He announces things and then does not fulfill them", questions the councilor of the Renovating Movement of Tinajo, who points out that "the most serious thing is that he does not communicate anything either" and there is "not even a simple sign" to inform the neighbors.
"With this type of attitude he demonstrates his contempt and his lack of willingness to help the primary sector and that the market can also be an attraction for the municipality of Tinajo", says Morales. In this regard, he recalls that in this legislature he has not even convened the market commission yet.
"We have been in the legislature for more than a year and he has not even asked the political groups of the opposition to designate the person who is going to represent them in that body", denounces the councilor. In fact, he even points out that he is incurring "at least some irregularity", given that that commission -formed by councilors from the government group, a representative of the opposition groups and representatives of the people who have stalls there- is the one that should make any decision that affects the market. "From a change in prices to any action, everything should go through the commission", he emphasizes.
"What we ask of the mayor once and for all is that he take foundation and that he begin to work as a responsible politician and that he does not continue to mock and mistreat the primary sector and treat the residents of the municipality of Tinajo in this way", the councilor concluded.
