The director of the Health Area of Lanzarote, Erasmo García, and the manager of the island's Health Services, Pablo Eguia, have held a working meeting with the insular director of the General Administration of the State, Pedro Viera, and representatives of the state security forces and bodies operating in Lanzarote, with the aim of reinforcing interinstitutional coordination in matters of security and health.
During the meeting, the need to establish a specific space at the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital for the Hospital Custody Unit was analyzed. This unit, made up of National Police officers, is responsible for the surveillance of inmate patients during their admission to the center. This action aims to improve security and healthcare organization in these cases.
On the other hand, health and administration officials discussed the optimization of care pathways for the prison population attending outpatient appointments or functional tests at the hospital, in order to guarantee prompt and adequate care in coordination with the Civil Guard officers accompanying these patientsBoth the Manager of Health Services and the Director of the Health Area agree in positively valuing the meeting, and point out that these types of meetings are fundamental for advancing effective coordination between administrations, which will directly result in better patient care and benefit the entire citizenry.Finally, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening collaboration in Public Health, especially in actions that require a coordinated response between health authorities and law enforcement agencies.
