On the occasion of the celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Cabildo of Lanzarote has observed a minute of silence in memory of all victims of male violence. The gathering took place in front of the institution's main entrance at 11:00 AM, where political representatives and employees of the island corporation showed their rejection of gender-based violence.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the importance of this gesture and stressed that "violence against women cannot have a place in our society." Betancort added that the institution will continue working to offer resources and support to victims, and pointed out that with this minute of silence, they want to remember that "every action of prevention and awareness is fundamental to saving lives".

For his part, the Minister of Social Welfare, Marci Acuña, stated during the event that "today, November 25, we say loud and clear, enough is enough. Enough of this scourge in our society." Acuña recalled that 1,333 women have been murdered in Spain since official records began, of whom 38 have been killed so far this year, leaving 20 children orphaned as a direct consequence of this violence."The Cabildo of Lanzarote joins the outcry of all society. We must continue to demand firmly, united, to eradicate this horrible situation we are suffering. Hopefully, one day we can look back and say we have managed to change it," added the councilor, who insisted on the importance of prevention, awareness, and constant support for victims. In addition to the minute of silence, **the institution handed out purple ribbons** as a visible symbol of its commitment against gender-based violence, and invited citizens to **participate in the demonstration called for this afternoon in Arrecife**, organized by the Forum against Gender Violence of Lanzarote, which will start at 6:30 PM from Cuatro Esquinas to Casa Amarilla, where a manifesto will be read and a performance will be held in tribute to the victims

This action is part of the extensive program that the Cabildo de Lanzarote has developed throughout November for 25N, which has included initiatives such as the XIII Race against Gender Violence, the women's Canarian wrestling event "Women of Sand and Strength," Marina Marroquí's monologue-workshop "That's Not Sex," and the educational project "Theater That Heals," among other activities aimed at raising awareness and preventing violence against women.
