La Parranda Janubio had already celebrated last June in Las Breñas its first four decades of musical career, but the parranda, always linked to the southern celebrations of the Virgen del Carmen, took to the festive stage this Sunday to offer Playa Blanca a careful repertoire of the folklore of the Canary Islands, inviting Begoña Quintero, Iván Díaz and the brothers José Manuel and Leo García Corujo, four great voices of the archipelago.
The Janubio Popular Music Encounter, presented by Leandro Martín, was a true gift of emotions for an audience that was thus able to enjoy the 40th anniversary of the parranda directed by Clotildo Martín. Of the historic members of Janubio, of that group of passionate founders who promoted the creation of the parranda in '86 in Las Breñas, Clotildo Martín (strings) and Leonardo Cabrera (vocals) are still part of it.
And from the talent nurtured musically in Janubio, today we can see the continuity and formative growth of young people who once began to sing and play from a very young age, among them, Fabio Cabrera, just as the young Aarón Fusari plays the timple with such ease today. Elena Acosta, president of Janubio, could not perform, but her colleagues conveyed a heartfelt message of affection to her.
Janubio is a deeply grateful parranda, so during the performance it took a few minutes to thank all the people and entities that collaborate and have collaborated with it in its fruitful artistic life. The Councilor for Celebrations of Yaiza, Daniel Medina, received a gift on behalf of the City Council; it is a pair of espadrilles that symbolize the parranda's journey and the mark left, but also the desire to continue advancing on the path of music and tradition.
Yaiza publicly praises Janubio's contribution to Canarian folklore and its tireless work in promoting popular music among the youngest. Surely the parranda will continue to share malagueñas, folías, seguidillas and isas, ennobling the coplas of Víctor Fernández Gopar and demonstrating in each performance its love for the municipality of Yaiza, a feeling made poetry and music.
Change in the festive program
Playa Blanca completed its first weekend of festivities with high participation. Humor, creation, and tradition combined in the town center. The City Council informs that the World Cup match Spain - France this Tuesday, July 14, will be broadcast at 8:00 PM in the square on a giant screen. Consequently, the playback for adults from Yaiza is moved to Wednesday the 15th at 8:00 PM, and then the performance by the group Drupe will take place.
