The Insular Directorate of the General State Administration in Lanzarote has held this Friday an institutional event on the occasion of International Women's Day, a day of vindication and reflection on the advances achieved in terms of equality and the challenges that still persist to achieve a fully just and egalitarian society.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Island Directorate, brought together institutional representatives, social groups and citizens in general in an event that highlighted the collective commitment to equality between women and men.

During the event, a special recognition was made to María Hiniesta Távora Triano, highlighting her career and social commitment in favor of the community. This recognition sought to highlight the role of so many women who, from different fields, have contributed to building a more egalitarian and supportive society. One of the most emotional moments of the day was the reading of the institutional declaration of International Women's Day, which was carried out by Tharais Armas Correa, granddaughter of the honoree, underlining the symbolism of the intergenerational transmission of the values of equality, respect, and social commitment. The island director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, Pedro Viera, highlighted during his speech that “International Women's Day is not only a date to celebrate the progress made, but also to renew the commitment of institutions and of all society with real and effective equality.”

Viera also pointed out that “acts like this remind us that the rights achieved have been the result of the effort of many women who paved the way, and that our responsibility is to continue working so that future generations live in a society free of inequalities.”

The island director also wanted to thank the involvement of the individuals and groups present, as well as recognize the example of María Hiniesta Távora Triano, “a woman whose trajectory represents the values of commitment, solidarity, and social participation that inspire this day”.

With this act, the Island Directorate reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of public policies that promote equality of opportunities and the elimination of any form of discrimination on the basis of gender.
