"Decisions are no longer being made within the coordination body and it seems that there are those who have put their party's slogans above, unilaterally breaking the unity of action," says the president

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has reported that both the Cabildo and the town councils have decided to end the activity of the Island Council, the body in which all the administrations of the island coordinated their decisions to face the coronavirus pandemic.

"We will continue to collaborate but, as normality makes its way and some town councils make decisions on the sidelines unilaterally, we have considered it convenient to dispense with the table”, Corujo pointed out, after the measures adopted this week by the town councils governed by CC, opening their sports facilities.

Thus, although the president wanted to publicly and expressly show her "gratitude" for the unity with which the town councils and the Cabildo have acted before this crisis, she considers that this scenario has changed.

“During these months we have worked hard, setting aside partisan considerations, trying to combine criteria and resources for the benefit of our people and I have nothing but words of gratitude for the mayors. At this time, however, decisions are no longer being made within the coordination body and it seems that there are those who have put their party's slogans above common decisions, unilaterally breaking the unity of action. Given this scenario, it seems appropriate that collaboration be managed bilaterally in each of the specific situations,” Corujo explained.

“Obviously, if any circumstance should arise that would advise resuming coordination meetings and joint agreements, I am convinced that all local authorities would once again act with the unity of criteria that has allowed us to face the pandemic”, concluded the president, pointing out that the Cabildo "will continue to support the different town councils in the face of any request they make."
