The Insular Water Council has managed to access the Montaña Roja desalination plant, for which a locksmith had to intervene, who managed to open the access door to the hydraulic infrastructure. The presence of agents of the Local Police of Yaiza and the Civil Guard was also required.
This Thursday morning, the Insular Water Council sent a brief statement to the media, in which it announced the urgent appearance of the president, Pedro San Ginés, to "offer the details of the seizure process of this installation of the Montaña Roja Partial Plan, where there are more than 6,000 resident neighbors and 9,000 tourist beds".
The president explained that this Thursday morning the manager of the Insular Water Consortium, the Canal Gestión, legal services of the Consortium and six local police officers from Yaiza, among other personnel, went to the area to proceed with this seizure. However, they encountered an impediment, as they were not allowed to access the private desalination plant.
Then, the Insular Water Consortium went to the Civil Guard of Yaiza to report this situation for obstruction of authority, disobedience and for seriously endangering the water supply to 6,000 residents and some 9,000 tourist places. In his appearance, the president also explained that a locksmith was going to go to the area to execute this seizure, something that finally occurred at around 2:00 p.m.
In this appearance, San Ginés expressed his confidence that the Canal Gestión staff can work to "guarantee the normal operation" of this plant. In addition, he assured that he himself contacted the promoter this Tuesday to warn him "of what was going to happen, that the desalination plant was going to be seized", although he did not give him a specific date.
According to San Ginés, the "initial" will is that the workers who are in this infrastructure "collaborate with those of Canal Gestión for the transfer of responsibilities in desalination". "It will no longer be Club Lanzarote, but Canal Gestión who continues to supply", he summarized.
Regarding the workers of Club Lanzarote, the president also pointed out that "unless they are an army with prohibitive salaries", something that "he doubts", "the will of the Canal is to assume the staff as its own".
