The government team of the Tías City Council, formed by PSOE and Unidas Sí Podemos, approved this Wednesday in an extraordinary plenary session, with the votes against of CC and Vox and the abstention of the PP, the Third Plan for Modernization, Improvement and Increase of Competitiveness of Puerto del Carmen, which will have to be definitively approved by the Government of the Canary Islands.
"The approval of the III Modernization Plan of Puerto del Carmen represents a fundamental milestone for our municipality. With an investment of almost 400 million euros, this plan covers 45 private actions and 10 public actions aimed at revitalizing and updating our tourist infrastructures and public services. This initiative is essential to remain competitive in a constantly evolving global tourism market," explains the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra.
The private actions are made up of the remodeling of 37 tourist and commercial establishments, 5 action units (3 are residential and 2 are tourist), and two endowment actions. This plan includes the transformation of 18 lodging establishments, many of which will go from being apartments to four-star hotels, thus raising the quality of the tourist offer. In addition, the modernization of emblematic shopping centers is contemplated.
On behalf of the corporation, Cruz Saavedra congratulated the businessmen for reinvesting and rehabilitating tourist facilities "without increasing beds and improving the offer." "This ambitious project is the result of collaboration between the public and private sectors. I deeply appreciate the cooperation of all parties involved. The prompt implementation of these initiatives is crucial to ensure the prosperous future of Puerto del Carmen and, therefore, of the entire municipality of Tías," he declared.
The Councilor for Urban Planning, Ulpiano Calero, has detailed the most relevant aspects of this document, which seeks to "encourage the rehabilitation, renovation and increase in category of lodging establishments and complementary offers; promote the diversification of the lodging offer as well as the complementary offer; promote initiatives aimed at generating millions of euros in capital gains for the improvement of public infrastructures and endowments; improve the road system and free spaces."
As Calero explained, regarding the Residential Action Units "it should be noted that they have been studied and reconfigured in such a way that their urban development is viable, and that this has also allowed the reservation of land for public housing to be increased from the current 15% to 30%."
Similarly, with respect to the Tourist Units, the Tías City Council acquires completely free of charge different land areas totaling 210,000 square meters for endowments and free spaces: 32,000 square meters of free space, 35,000 square meters of land for roads and Rambla Islas Canarias, 105,181 square meters of land for general systems for the implementation of new services and public endowments; and 33,026 square meters of land as an endowment for premises.
The Modernization Plan contemplates, for example, the provision of land for the future construction of a Health Center in Puerto del Carmen and numerous public actions to be carried out on the main roads of Puerto del Carmen, such as Reina Sofia, Juan Carlos I, Timanfaya streets; Roque de Este and Acatife, Frankfurt, Greece, Bajamar, Tenerife and Hierro, Agonal, Roque Nublo, Cenobio, Taburiente, etc.
