The Ministry of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands held an informative meeting this Tuesday on the Islote de Fermina, in Arrecife, in which the vice-president of the regional Executive and minister of the area, Manuel Domínguez, presented the Support Plan for the Self-Employed.The meeting, organized with the collaboration of the Association of Merchants and Entrepreneurs of Arrecife (ACEA), the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and A.E.P. Tías, was attended by more than thirty self-employed workers from different economic sectors of the islandAmong the institutional representatives present were the president of ACEA, Osvaldo Machín; the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle; the president of A.E.P. Tías, Lidia Morales; the general director of Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, Mónica Nuez Ramos; as well as the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, and the mayor of Arrecife, Jonathan de León

During his speech, Manuel Domínguez highlighted the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to self-employment and stressed the importance of supporting entrepreneurs at all stages of their activity. In this regard, he pointed out that "the latest data on the zero quota demonstrate the need to support those who decide to start a business," indicating that more than 3,600 self-employed individuals benefited from this measure in 2026, of which 285 correspond to Lanzarote. Likewise, he affirmed that "the best social policy that exists is job creation"
The vice president explained the main axes of the Support Plan for the Self-Employed, which includes various lines of support aimed at reinforcing the economic activity of the group, facilitating work-life balance, and improving the sustainability of self-employment. Among them, he highlighted the Concilia program, designed to favor the balance between work and personal life. The presentation included audiovisual material and a detailed explanation of the scope of the measuresAfter the event, attendees participated in a coffee and networking space that allowed for direct exchange with the vice president and the Council's team, raising questions about the Plan and conveying concerns related to their daily professional activity
This meeting in Lanzarote is part of a round of meetings that the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed is developing on different islands of the archipelago, after being held previously in Tenerife and Fuerteventura, with the aim of bringing public policies of support to the self-employed collective closer and reinforcing direct contact with the Canary Islands business fabric.
