The Government of the Canary Islands has decided to extend the zero-fee dining aid to the months of July and August. The Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports, Manuela Armas, announced this Friday that two more recharges will be made to the 13,980 wallet cards to serve students from families with economic difficulties, also during these two summer months.
These will constitute the 4th and 5th campaign of this initiative, which involves an expenditure of about 1.6 million euros per campaign. This is an aid of 120 euros per student for the purchase of food and basic hygiene products. The beneficiaries are students from public centers dependent on the Government of the Canary Islands who enjoy the school canteen at zero cost, that is, they do not pay anything for this service due to their limited resources.
The Executive launched this measure in March to support students in critical economic situations who could not enjoy the dining service due to the closure of educational centers due to COVID-19. "The school year has ended, but the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to these children continues, ensuring that they are cared for during these two months in which there is no class, but in which the difficulties and needs of families do not disappear," said the Minister.
The Ministry will inform of these recharges when they are made. It should be noted that the conditions of this aid, which have been communicated to families, are maintained. Thus, it is recalled that it will not be necessary to exhaust this balance in a single purchase, but it can be distributed in several. Payments exceeding this amount cannot be made with these cards, which expire on December 31, 2020. The balance of the cards can be consulted at Caixabank ATMs or on the website moneytopay.com
The beneficiaries must keep the tickets of the purchases made in case they are required as justification and should not get rid of the card once its balance has been consumed. Families must return the card to the educational center when required, as well as destroy it when it expires or is replaced. If any incident occurs, it must be communicated to the educational center or contact Caixabank through the telephone number that appears on the card.
