A resolution from the Government Delegation that La Voz has accessed states that the housing encampment in Arrecife must have authorization from the capital's City Council as it occupies a public space, in this case, Ramírez Cerdá park.

According to this document, the Insular Directorate sees no inconvenience in the peaceful gathering taking place and is limited to guaranteeing the right of assembly and demonstration. However, it does not have the authority to authorize the exclusive use of public roads or the installation of structures, as this permit corresponds to the Arrecife City Council.

Therefore, the City Council points out that "Municipal Ordinances prohibit encampments in the municipality of Arrecife" and specifies that "gatherings can take place in that park, but not encampments, including facilities for them."

From the Arrecife City Council, they insist that it is not a gathering or demonstration, but an encampment, something that violates municipal regulations, as they explain.

The spokespersons for the people encamped for the Right to Housing in Lanzarote publicly denounced this Thursday the warnings received from the Arrecife City Council and the Local Police regarding possible fines and the eviction of the encampment. Such sanctions could reach 4,500 euros per person.
