The expansion of the Tías cemetery will have accessible routes, shaded areas, and green spaces

The Tías City Council is executing, with a budget of 1,491,892.91 euros financed with its own funds, the project for the expansion of the municipal cemetery. This expansion, which starts from the plot facing the west of the island, includes accessible routes, shaded areas, and green spaces.

Currently, the earthmoving work prior to the construction of the niches is being carried out. The works are advancing towards a proposal that integrates two large central squares planned as meeting and distribution spaces provided with shaded areas.

According to the project, these areas also aim to have a slight separation from the burial areas, with landscaped spaces around their perimeter with large trees that can offer shade and a greater sense of tranquility.

The mayor, José Juan Cruz, the first deputy mayor, Nicolás Saavedra, and the councilors for Urban Planning and Cemetery, Ulpiano Calero and Pepa González, emphasize the design of a simple route with masonry elements and native vegetation, achieving an accessible urban space that facilitates user orientation, while also having a visual connection with the sea at almost all points of the project.

969 burial spaces

A total of 762 niches are planned, separated into 7 distinct blocks, located at different points on the property. Also located in different spaces are 80 columbaria and 35 ossuaries, making a total of 877 burial places solely in the planned blocks. Furthermore, 92 graves have been counted in the burial areas, "making a total capacity of the cemetery expansion of 969 burials".

The site starts with a slight slope, with views towards the sea in the southern area with a greater depression. The affected plot has a total area of just over 10,900 square meters and the project estimates the arrangement of a sector of the total plot, specifically the southern sector.
