Farmers, ranchers and fishermen of Lanzarote and La Graciosa already have deposited in their current accounts the direct subsidies for water consumption in the primary sector, convened this year by the Water Consortium for the year 2023.

“We are going to continue supporting, expanding and streamlining aid to the primary sector in critical moments for everyone due to the water crisis we are experiencing,” according to the president of the Cabildo and the Water Consortium, Oswaldo Betancort.

The total amount of aid amounts to 145,739.31 euros. Of the 552 policies benefiting from the aid, 479 have already been deposited for an amount of 128,038.22 euros, while the remaining 17,701.09 euros, which correspond to the other 73 beneficiaries, will be deposited once they resolve the requirement to provide the current account data, according to the Minister of Water of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and vice president of the Consortium, Domingo Cejas.

Among the requirements requested from the beneficiaries, it should be noted that, in the case of farmers, they must be registered as users and payers in the invoice to be passed on in the subsidy, while for fishermen's associations the consumption is for fishing extractive activity and its commercialization.

Thus, people attached to the agricultural regime go from 0.98 euros/m3 of water to 0.50 euros/m3, while those not attached to the agricultural regime go from 1.12 euros/m3 to 0.80 euros/m3 of water in the year 2023.

Fishermen's associations, producer organizations, federations and sea cooperatives are applied a reduction of 0.48 euros m3 in water consumption destined for fishing extractive activity and its commercialization during 2023.

The list of beneficiaries of these aids, approved by the decree signed by Oswaldo Betancor on October 29, 2024, can be consulted on the website of the Water Consortium of Lanzarote
