“The management of the Lanzarote Water Consortium is perfectly aware of the precarious situation of pipes in some sections of the island's network, but also defends the list of priorities that have been established during the last months in an ambitious investment plan”. This is how Councilor Andrés Stinga responded to Canal Gestión, following the new supply problem in La Graciosa.
In a statement, the company stated that this is the sixth breakdown in the submarine pipeline that carries water to the eighth island in a year, and questioned that it has been “presenting reports” to the Consortium for years, requesting the urgent replacement" of that pipeline, due to its "state of fragility and obsolescence”.
“The drafting of the project will be undertaken soon”, the Consortium responded, which has defended the investments it is currently carrying out, based on those established “priorities”.
“The Lanzarote Water Consortium, which depends on the Cabildo of Lanzarote, continues these days working on the different infrastructure projects initiated during this term of office, both in terms of drinking water supply and agricultural irrigation or purification”, he points out in a statement.
Regarding the improvement of the submarine pipeline of La Graciosa, despite the announcement, he has warned that the execution will take time to arrive. “Due to the environmental protection situation of the environment, this is a project that will require a complicated process”, he points out.
Regarding the current situation, he insisted that it is Canal Gestión's responsibility to guarantee the supply and also provide water tanks to the residents in case of shortage, until the company repairs the breakdown.
In addition, he has warned that the Consortium “will monitor the repair times of the breakdown” by Canal, “so that the incident is resolved in the shortest possible time”.
