The mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, has requested a report from the head of the Local Police to see if the actions of two of her agents, who hit two people who were recording an arrest, were disproportionate.
Thus, despite the emergency meeting held this Monday, they will wait for the report to see if any action is taken against the police officers. In fact, the press department has informed La Voz that the councilor responsible for the Police, Alfredo Mendoza, will not make statements to the media on this matter until the report is completed.
The City Council and the Police authorities are thus silent for the moment, about events that have already transcended throughout Spain.
It was residents of Pedro Barba Street, where the events took place, who recorded the controversial images, which have gone viral. In them, it is seen how the Local Police officers had a man detained and immobilized on the ground, while a couple recorded what was happening.
Subsequently, one of the agents approaches the woman, knocking the mobile phone to the ground with a slap, and the man who was with her confronts the police officer, who responds by hitting him. The agent even chases the man down the street, until he ends up throwing him to the ground.
After that, the woman approaches the agent and tries to hit him, also falling to the ground, where the police officer pushes her twice. Meanwhile, the second police officer enters the scene, who until now was with the first detainee already handcuffed, who goes to the man, who had already gotten up, giving him a strong punch that throws him to the ground again, leaving him apparently unconscious.
