The Arrecife City Council announces, through the Department of Sports, the opening of registration to participate in the San Silvestre popular race Ciudad de Arrecife 2024 that will be held on December 31. The last sporting event in the capital of Lanzarote, in a year where the city is commemorating the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality.
The capital's mayor, Yonathan de León, and councilor Eli Merino, announce that this year, as in 2023, they will take the start. The Arrecife City Council will donate to the Pequeño Valiente Association, which helps child cancer patients, the symbolic income obtained from registrations in this race.
This edition of the San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife has a special symbolism as it commemorates the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife, and is broadcast that same day, at night, from the Castillo de San José-MIAC, in Arrecife, the New Year's Eve Bells on the Telecinco and Cuatro channels, through an initiative promoted by the Tourist Centers of Lanzarote, led by Councilor Ángel Vázquez.
Eli Merino, Councilor for Sports, Commerce and Tourism of the Arrecife City Council, highlighted that "with municipal support, which last year broke records for participants, the city continues to be revitalized where, in addition to residents, many visitors who will enjoy those New Year's Eve holidays on the island, have the option of participating in this sporting event".
The San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife 2024 has several modalities, and in this edition the event will take place in the morning, after the success achieved in the previous edition.
The race for children, from 2 to 5 years old, will start at 9:30 a.m. covering a circuit of 50 meters. The pre-Benjamin modality 200 meters, for children between 5 and 7 years old, will be at 09:45 hours, The Benjamin modality, for children between 8 and 9 years old, will start at 10:00 and will cover a distance of 400 meters. The Alevín/Infantil has the start at 10:15 hours, and will be destined for children between 10 and 13 years old, doing an 800 meter race.
The adult race, the 5K, from 12 years old, is scheduled to start at 11:00 hours.
The place of concentration and departure will be from the surroundings of the Parque Islas Canarias, in the capital of Lanzarote, and will run along the renovated pedestrian promenade next to El Reducto beach, in one of its sections, which was under construction last year, and since this past summer you can walk and enjoy it.
Registration for this traditional Christmas sports event will have a fee of €8 for adults and €5 for children. This event has a solidarity aspect, since the proceeds will be donated to the Pequeño Valiente Association, an entity that has facilities in Arrecife, which has the support and collaboration of the Municipal Government, led by Mayor Yonathan de León.
Registrations can be made through the web page completing the mandatory fields of the form and indicating the modality in which you will participate. The race will be held on the last day of the year, touring the streets of the capital of the island.
The entire surroundings of the Parque Islas Canarias, as well as the maritime front of Arrecife, from El Reducto to the Ginory area - next to the Charco de San Ginés - has a prominent Christmas atmosphere, within the initiatives developed for these Christmas, New Year's Eve and Reyes festivities, carried out by the Government group.
