The City Council of Tías has shown its flags at half-mast in expression of its most sincere condolences for the death of the historic socialist leader Jerónimo Saavedra Acevedo, who died yesterday in Las Palmas at the age of 87.

The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, showed this Tuesday on his social networks the regret for this loss, stating that it has been "a sad day for the Canary Islands" and highlighting the first president of the Canary Islands and Minister of Education as a "reference of cordiality and tolerance."

During the day this Wednesday, 'World Music Day', numerous citizens and representatives of the cultural world and political personalities from all parties are approaching the golden hall of the Santa Ana Consistorial Houses in their Vegueta neighborhood, which hosts the funeral chapel.

The Government of the Canary Islands has declared three days of official mourning in the Autonomous Community, mourning that has also been declared by the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canarias, of which he was also mayor. Saavedra stood out for being a patron of culture and creating the 'Canary Islands Music Festival'.
