The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, announced this Tuesday that the Government of the Canary Islands has committed to subsidizing the price of fuel on the islands of Lanzarote, La Graciosa and Fuerteventura for the year 2025.
This was conveyed by the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, to the Lanzarote president during a meeting in which the vice president of the regional Executive, Manuel Domínguez, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, also participated.
The Canarian Government has committed to analyze the report prepared by the Chambers of Commerce of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura on the hydrocarbon market in both islands in order to verify if market conditions justify bonuses to the final price of certain fuels derived from oil refining. The ultimate goal is to determine the percentage of discount to the price of fuel in both Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, to equalize prices with the rest of the Canary Islands.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, states that "this measure, which we have been demanding since the last legislature, will benefit the families, self-employed and companies of our islands, also achieving progress towards greater equality in the mobility of all Canarians, reducing the price differences of a basic supply such as this and that not only affects the economic but also the social sphere."
Betancort recalls that "during the last legislature up to fourteen initiatives were taken to the Parliament of the Canary Islands requesting the subsidization of fuel in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, however, this new government has listened to us and has committed to subsidizing the price of fuel in our islands, thus responding to a demand from citizens and advancing towards greater equality between islands."
