The Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands and Minister of Finance, Budgets and European Affairs, Román Rodríguez, assured this Friday in Lanzarote that the Government will promote "specific measures to accelerate and consolidate the economic recovery on the Island, one of the most affected by the economic crisis derived from the Covid-19 pandemic".
Rodríguez made these statements during an institutional visit to the Island and after meeting with the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, to whom he conveyed the need to "strengthen cooperation" between the autonomous Executive and the Lanzarote institutions to activate measures that allow "not only a prompt return to normality, but also the improvement of the quality of life of all the residents of Lanzarote in the future".
The president, María Dolores Corujo, thanked the visit and stated that "collaboration between public administrations is vital to provide solutions to the families and companies most affected by the economic crisis derived from the pandemic" and acknowledged that, given the systematic mistreatment in terms of investment that Lanzarote has suffered in recent years, "it has been a priority for the vice president to remedy this injustice and discrimination with our Island".
The vice president insisted that the economic damage caused by the pandemic "has been more intense in the territories with greater dependence on the tourism sector, such as Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, due to mobility restrictions, which also forces us to make a greater effort".

Rodríguez assured that the situation caused by Covid has been compounded by the insufficient ordinary investment in Lanzarote by the last autonomous governments, a situation that he assured is "on the way to being resolved".
In this regard, the vice president recalled that the productive fabric of Lanzarote has received 14.3 percent of the 87.4 million euros of the first call for direct aid launched by the autonomous Executive, even though it only has 7 percent of the population, "which shows that action is already being taken to alleviate this situation". In addition, he pointed out that this distribution of aid "is expected to be replicated in the open call for 1,144 million euros and in the payment of the amount of the IBI to tourism companies".
After this first meeting, Rodríguez and Corujo met with the mayors of the Island in the Plenary Hall of the Island Corporation, a meeting in which the municipal officials raised their main concerns and demands, also related to the health evolution of the pandemic and the response to the economic crisis derived from it.
