The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility of the Government of the Canary Islands, Pablo Rodríguez, confirmed this Tuesday to the deputy of the Canarian Nationalist Group (CCa) and president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Oswaldo Betancort, that the Port of Playa Blanca will open to the arrival of tourist cruises.
The member of the autonomous Executive thus denied, as the public business entity Puertos Canarios did weeks ago, the hoax spread by a digital media outlet that claimed that this entity was going to close the ports managed by the Autonomous Community to the arrival of small and medium-sized cruise ships, called 'boutique'.
Betancort expressed his satisfaction for the future influx of cruises to Playa Blanca "because our people, our taxi drivers, our small businesses, our restaurants, our fishermen from Playa Blanca and the rest of Lanzarote deserve to see their business opportunities increased".
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa and autonomous deputy recalled in this sense that "it has been under the governments of Coalición Canaria when the development of this Port has been promoted, by undertaking an expansion that remained blocked for 25 years and that has been fundamental for the dynamization of the southern area of the Island and of all Lanzarote".
Playa Blanca Health Center
On the other hand, during his intervention in the plenary session held today by the autonomous Chamber, Oswaldo Betancort conveyed to the Minister of Health, Esther Monzón, the inclusion in the agenda of the plenary session to be held this Thursday by the Yaiza City Council of the transfer of municipal land so that the autonomous Government can proceed with the expansion of the Health Center of Playa Blanca.
Betancor highlighted "the reaction, finally" of the mayor Óscar Noda after the five requirements made by the Ministry so that he would correct the error made in 2021 when the City Council approved the transfer of land to the Canarian Health Service instead of to the Autonomous Community, "which will allow the expansion project to be undertaken that will provide this Center with Radiology and Rehabilitation services, among others", he highlighted.
