The Cactus Garden and the Farmer's House Museum now have chairs adapted for mobility and evacuation at both centers. The vice-president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, and head of the Planning and Project Coordination area that manages the NEXT Generation EU funds, María Jesús Tovar; and the minister of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers of Lanzarote, Ángel Vázquez, personally checked the new chairs.

“We continue to bet on providing financial backing so that our Tourist Centers are increasingly accessible to everyone, and so they can enjoy the legacy of César Manrique,” stated the vice-president.

For his part, the minister of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers, Ángel Vázquez, explained that the workers of both spaces “have already received the necessary training for the use of these chairs”. “Improving accessibility and mobility is not just about having these objects, but about being capable ourselves of making them useful for everyone,” he added.

Likewise, both leaders checked the new auditory accessibility system with Visualfy technology, which operates through electronic devices equipped with microphones and artificial intelligence algorithms capable of recognizing previously configured specific sounds, such as emergency alarms, doorbells, public address announcements, acoustic signals from machinery, or any other relevant sound event in the environment.

Once the sound is detected, the system generates an immediate notification that can be materialized in visual signals (lights, screens), vibrations, or alerts on mobile devices, through an associated application.

Specifications of the adapted chairs

The Batec chair, which allows easy mobility for people with reduced mobility, is composed of a reinforced manual wheelchair and an attachable electric handbike unit, forming a modular set that allows the chair to be transformed into a three-wheeled motorized vehicle, facilitating autonomous movement on different types of terrain.

In this way, this system allows users to overcome limitations associated with mobility on uneven surfaces, slopes, or long-distance routes, significantly expanding their possibilities of access to natural, cultural, and tourist spaces.

On the other hand, the vice-president of the Cabildo and the counselor of the CACT checked the usefulness of the caterpillar-type evacuation chair for people with reduced mobility. These are designed to allow the safe transfer of these people through stairs during an emergency situation, through a continuous traction system that progressively controls the descent. A mechanism that allows overcoming the limitations presented by other evacuation means in environments where there are no alternative accessible routes or whose ramps are prolonged.
