The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, has announced that the first island institution will appeal the decree issued on February 24 by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, by which the execution of the project “Vista Mar Wind Farm” of 6.00 MW, promoted by Renovertis, S.L. in Costa Teguise, is agreed, and the alteration of the affected planning is ordered.

Corujo has explained that, contrary to what is stated in the background of that decree, the Cabildo of Lanzarote "did show its disagreement with the proposed installation, to the point that the Island Government Council adopted an agreement, on December 3, 2021, in which it generally opposed the use by the Government of the Canary Islands of the exceptional mechanism with which this authorization was processed." She affirms that this agreement was transferred to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning.

"The aforementioned agreement also referred to the need to have an instrument that regulates this type of installation, since they generate a significant impact on the island's landscape, and the Government of the Canary Islands was informed that the Cabildo has taken the first steps to have said instrument and thus allow the orderly deployment of renewable installations in the island's territory," they add from the Corporation.

“We are going to appeal this authorization. We share with the Government of the Canary Islands the need to promote renewables, but we understand that their deployment must be orderly to guarantee the conservation of our most valuable asset, our landscape,” the president concluded.
