The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, has announced the bidding for the works to improve energy efficiency and the renovation of the public lighting of the northern town of Mala, for an amount of 2,108,392.85 euros, including IGIC. These works will be co-financed by the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) by 80% and the remaining 20% by the Cabildo's own funds.
The action, whose execution period is approximately seven months, will allow the renovation of the public lighting installations in the streets of the town of Mala, providing them with new elements, with LED technology to improve efficiency, thus betting on energy saving.
"From the first Island Corporation we are working, in a determined way, to promote savings in energy consumption. The reduction of both existing light pollution and energy intensity becomes a priority objective to achieve a more sustainable development on the island of Lanzarote”., says the president of the Cabildo
That is why, from the Energy area managed by Ariagona González, the need has been raised to carry out “a series of actions in order to establish the necessary measures to achieve maximum energy efficiency of public lighting, as well as reduce the problem of light pollution that these old facilities are producing in some towns on the island”.
Specifically in the town of Mala, and after an audit carried out by the Haría City Council itself, it is determined that the public lighting in said town currently presents "a low level of energy efficiency" and that "a large number of streets have a lighting level below the recommended value", according to the Cabildo.
